THE CHALLENGE
CBI was chosen to provide structural engineering services for the design and construction of a 98,000 square foot, four-story self-storage building and foundation located on the corner of E and Cypher Streets in South Boston.
CBI’S SOLUTION
CBI provided structural engineering services for the design of a steel braced frame structure founded on rammed aggregate piers. The building structure consists of a steel superstructure supporting concrete on a metal deck. There is also a one-story administration area at the main entrance. The typical exterior facade consists of block veneer at the ground floor and composite metal panels at the upper floors. The exterior of the administration area consists of aluminum storefront; the portion of the building above this area is corrugated metal panel. The entirety of the rear elevation will be block veneer with a green wall stainless steel cable system. CBI also designed the roof to accommodate solar panels.
