Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel, Boston

THE CHALLENGE

CBI worked directly for the restoration contractor in charge of numerous, sensitive repairs on the exterior of the building.

CBI’S SOLUTION

CBI assisted the construction process by providing Dutchman details after carefully evaluating which stones required repair.  The existing limestone was bedded in an unusual manner at the rear of the building.  The front of the building was of a very high quality stone installed in a very competent manner.  The rear, however, was not as pristine.  Deterioration had formed because of poor detailing and poor materials, allowing water into the system and promoting deterioration.

In consultation with the contractor doing the work, CBI recommended various flashing configurations and alternate finishes to provide a watertight building envelope which would protect the original material and interior finishes.
