THE CHALLENGE
Perform the complete investigation and evaluation of the west stands, which seat 5,250 including the press box. The scope of work involved recommendations for a two-phase repair to replace expansion joints, installation of a complete deck coating, a new roof, and new floor drains at the vomitories, as well as provide structural concrete repair and ventilation of the underside.
CBI’S SOLUTION
Repairs for this 1949 structure were designed to minimize future maintenance from the concern of vandalism at the time. Construction was phased to meet school department recreation schedules.
CBI also studied handicapped accessibility options and installed a new full service elevator from the promenade directly into the middle of the stands and created a new wheelchair platform as well as new parking and curb art.
CBI and PFD were awarded the 1996 New England Chapter, International Concrete Repair Institute Award for the work at the White Stadium.
